Residents' Stories Shine at Canary Wharf Winter Lights Exhibition 2025

If you’re looking for something interesting to brighten up your winter evening, look no further.
Canary Wharf’s spectacular Winter Lights has returned and this year features a very special installation inspired by some of our residents’ experiences.
Open daily from 5-10pm until the 1 February this free exhibition showcases 12 temporary immersive light installations produced by artists from all over the globe. This includes item 6 Stitching Light.
In collaboration with Emergency Exit Arts, Paraa, Oitij-jo, and the Migration Museum, Stitching Light gathers the real-life experiences of Bangladeshi women who have migrated to England. Their stories have been beautifully woven together into an immersive sound and light installation. Using traditional fabrics, saris, jute and illuminated thread, women in Tower Hamlets and Bangladesh have been rediscovering Kantha; a story sharing and embroidery technique traditionally used in Bangladesh and other southeast Asian countries. These women’s stories are rarely gathered, told or heard and through this format will be preserved for future generations.
