Payments and Support
Paying your rent in advance
Paying rent in advance is a key part of your tenancy agreement.
- You must pay for the week or month ahead
- Your account must remain at zero or in credit
- If it falls below zero, you are in breach of your agreement
If you have a weekly tenancy, you may pay monthly if you prefer. You must still ensure your account remains in advance and never falls below zero.
What you need to do
If you receive Housing Benefit
Contact the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to update your entitlement.
If you receive Universal Credit
Update your Universal Credit journal with your new housing costs to avoid arrears.
If you pay by Direct Debit
Your payments will update automatically.
If you pay by another method
You must update your payment amount to ensure full payment.
It is your responsibility to make sure your payments cover your charges.

Your feedback in action
Residents told us our annual notices were too long and difficult to understand.
This year the notice will be:
- Shorter
- Clearer
- Written in plain English
- More accessible, with additional detail available online
We worked with residents and the Estate Management Board to improve the format and will continue to seek feedback.
