Building fire safety information

Secure Information Box (SIB)

Every building has a Firefighter Information Box near the main entrance. This box is RED for easy identification and contains vital safety information for the Fire Brigade.

The SIB helps firefighters respond quickly and safely and ensures they know the layout of your building and who needs assistance. This means faster rescues, better coordination, and improved chances of keeping everyone safe during an emergency . It is important not to vandalise or damage this box as it plays a critical role in emergency response.

Fire Doors

Fire doors are a vital part of your building’s fire safety system. Flat entrance doors are FD30S-rated with self-closing devices. These doors prevent the spread of smoke and flames—never wedge them open or remove closers.

Flat entrance doors are checked annually and c ommunal doors (for example, to plant rooms, bin stores, risers) are checked every 3 months.

Fire doors prevent smoke and flames from spreading, giving you valuable time to escape safely. That’s why it’s essential to allow us access for inspection and maintenance.

Emergency Lighting

Monthly t ests confirm that lights switch on, and annual tests ensure they stay on for the required time. This helps you evacuate safely during power loss or smoke conditions.
  • Quarterly functional tests confirm that the lights are in working order.
  • Annual 3-hour test -duration tests ensure lights stay on for the required time.

Emergency lighting supports safe evacuation during power loss or smoke conditions and guides the Fire Brigade in an event of a fire.

Smoke Alarm(s)

Tenants are responsible for checking their smoke alarms and reporting any faults. Do not cover or remove alarms and report any issues immediately.

Smoke detectors provide an early warning when a fire starts. This extra time helps you and your family escape safely before smoke and flames spread.
