OAPs Meet Again at EastendHomes Christmas Lunch
The atmosphere was warm with friendship and cheer at EastendHomes' OAP Christmas lunch on Wednesday 14 December.
Back for the first time since 2019, this much loved event which took place in Mile End at Southern Grove Community Centre, saw old friends reunited and entertained with a delicious feast, music and good old fashioned conversation.
A wonderful example of partnership working, EastendHomes' annual OAP Christmas Lunch is made possible thanks to a committed network of staff and resident and corporate volunteers all under the expert attention of Chef Danny Jack. 22 staff from nearby Barclays Head Office in Canary Wharf came along to offer a hand and get involved.
Teresa Marren aged 85 and a resident of Mile End said;
It’s very nice. We all meet up to have a good old time, sing song, and see people we haven’t seen for ages. We’re very well looked after by everyone.
Anthony Norton aged 81 added;
It’s a joy to meet people and unwind. I did miss it during Covid.
Katherine Thompson from Barclays commented:
Our staff are always keen to get involved in this Christmas community event because it’s such a pleasure to be part of. Seeing the guests have so much fun is an amazing feeling. The OAPs can certainly teach us a thing or two on how to have a good time.
Paul Wilson, EastendHomes' Community Manager said:
Like many community events our OAP annual lunch celebration was cancelled for the last two years because of the constraints of Covid. It feels so good to be back because we know how much this lunch means to our older residents. A huge thank you to our staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to create a fantastic atmosphere for all to enjoy.
