Board Members visit Mile End estates

On the 14 June EastendHomes Board members and staff visited the Mile End estates for their third walkabout of the year.
John Henderson, Chief Executive of EEH explains:
It was an opportunity for Board members to meet with residents, understand their concerns and talk to EEH staff.
Eric estate has been undergoing building works for some time and although the works are progressing well, with scaffolding coming down at the back of Buttermere House, there is still much to do. In particular, Board members were keen to learn more about the impact on residents and how this was being managed.
A meeting with residents and local housing staff at Southern Grove Community Centre was followed by a walk through to the British estate to meet residents at the Bernie Cameron Community Centre at the new ‘coffee and chat’ session organised by EeH volunteers. Representatives from the nearby British St Cultural Centre joined the meeting for a discussion about issues concerning the Centre.
It was a lovely sunny day and so the walkabout extended over to Bede estate via the Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, one of the biggest green spaces in the Borough and we passed by one of the many guided walks undertaken by the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park looking at the nature and history of the area. EEH works in partnership with the Friends in delivering horticulture services on a nearby estate.
At the Bede ‘infill’ room we spoke to residents involved in the foodbank (picture one) and took the opportunity to take a photo of the board members and staff involved getting to know some of the local residents (picture two).
Board members were again pleased with the level of cleanliness on the estates and had a chance to see some of the handiwork of the EEH horticultural teams.
