Mile End housing team steps in to tackle anti-social behaviour

One of the biggest challenges we face as a housing association is dealing with anti-social behaviour (ASB). There are different types of ASB as outlined by the Met Police, but there’s no doubt about the distress it causes residents who experience it on their doorstep.

Our housing team at Mile End recently managed to address ASB on one of our estates with a satisfactory outcome for the people who live there. This concerned suspected drug dealing from the property of a tenant who wasn’t directly involved, but whose home was being used for this illegal purpose.

By gathering evidence and working in partnership with the local police force and Parkguard, who provide community safety services, the Mile End housing team managed to get the case taken to court. This resulted in an 18-month Suspended Possession Order, which allows the tenant to remain in their home as long as they make sure that the ASB stops.

East End Homes CEO Daniel Killian said: “The housing teams across all five of the estates that we manage are committed to delivering the best possible service for residents. Addressing ASB is all about teamwork and supporting those residents who are affected by it. Equally so, the reasons for ASB are often complex and may involve residents with additional support needs who’ve been exploited or manipulated by the perpetrators. Well done to the Mile End housing team for their proactive, sensitive approach to managing this challenging case and giving reassurance to the estate residents.”
