Holland Estate marks the start of Spring with Community Dinner

Thanks to support from Historic England and backing from local partners Toynbee Hall and social landlord EastendHomes, residents from Holland Estate came together in the spring sunshine for a Community Dinner on Friday 25 March 2022.

The event which has been organised in partnership with residents from Holland Estate in Aldgate was an opportunity for everyone to gather safely, be together and catch-up.

Themed around celebrating local Bengali heritage the Community Dinner warmly welcomed everyone with a range of activities for all ages.   This included a film screening, craft activities for young people and a delicious free dinner cooked by chefs from local social enterprise Lady Lane Kitchen. Previously scheduled for 2021 like many public events the Community Dinner was postponed because of the lockdown restrictions caused by the international health pandemic.

Kabir Ahmed; Chair of EastendHomes Holland Estate Board said:

It’s easy to underestimate the importance of a simple chat with a neighbour, but as we’ve seen to today there are so  many benefits in knowing you live in area where people are looking out for each other.

To host this Community Dinner on our estate and celebrate the heritage of many of our residents has been so positive for everyone and a great start to Spring.

Mathilda O’Donoghue; Community Outreach & Development Officer Toynebee Hall said:

The purpose of the Community Dinner is to bring people together.   To see everyone enjoy each others company in the comfort of their own neighbourhood sums up everything important about community connection.
