A tribute to Colin Pirie

We are very sad to share that Colin Pirie, a Mile End resident and former EastendHomes employee, passed away over the weekend of 9-10 January 2021.

Tragically his mother May, another Mile End resident, also passed away just hours before him.

Popular with their local community, Colin and May lived on the British Estate in Mile End and were well known for their friendly and giving nature. They had lived on the British Estate longer than any other residents.

Colin joined EastendHomes in 2005 as a member of our estate services team. Colin was a highly respected and hard-working individual. Several years later he took the opportunity to change job roles when he joined the team at the Bernie Cameron Community Centre. Here he went onto to use his skills to successfully build a range of services for local people.

After he retired in November 2018, Colin continued to play an active role in volunteering at the Bernie Community Centre and ran a popular class to share his craft skills. He was a very enthusiastic photographer and would often voluntarily provide the photography for EastendHomes events.

Colin always looked out for others and was often the first to help if there was a problem. In 2018 when a serious fire broke out at Grafton House, Colin immediately alerted the emergency services and was subsequently praised for his prompt response.

We feel incredibly luckily to have known and worked with Colin and May, they will be sadly missed.
