Tenancy Fraud Awareness

It’s International Tenancy Fraud Awareness Week. Our Chief Executive, Daniel Killian, explains why we’re committed to stamping out tenancy fraud in your neighbourhood.

“As a locally based housing association, we have strong ties to the communities we serve. This includes working in partnership with residents to investigate and take action against tenancy fraud. Those who unfairly and illegally occupy social rented homes are taking away this precious resource from people in genuine housing need.

Our number one priority is to support the safety and wellbeing of residents. We know that tenancy fraud doesn’t just deprive families who are entitled to social rented homes. It contributes to anti-social behaviour as it can be associated with criminal activity. And it’s a lot harder for us to investigate complaints if we’re unaware of who’s living in the homes we manage.

International Tenancy Fraud Awareness Week is an opportunity to remind residents that we promise to take your concerns seriously and investigate allegations of tenancy fraud. You can report it in the strictest confidence by contacting your local housing officer or  customer.services@eastendhomes.net .

We also have an important message for anyone who’s subletting a social rented home that they’re no longer personally occupying or entitled to. We won’t ask any questions as long as you remove your illegal tenants and return the property’s keys to us. Please be aware that we’ll be taking a much stronger stance on tenancy fraud in the future so, now’s the time to act without consequences.

We know that as East End Homes residents, you’re justifiably proud of the strong communities you’ve established over the past 20 years. Tackling tenancy fraud is in everyone’s interests. We’ll continue working with you to make sure that social rented homes go to residents of Tower Hamlets who need them most.”
