East End Homes rounds up its 20th anniversary celebrations in style

The summer of celebration was an opportunity for residents to get together, share their memories of the East End over the past 20 years, reconnect with old acquaintances and make new friends. The events were designed to be inclusive and welcoming for all in recognition of the borough’s rich diversity. Residents enjoyed party food and time to connect in a relaxed environment at accessible venues on East End Homes’ estates. With an emphasis on encouraging families to join in the fun, a children’s entertainer and a locally based face painter proved a huge hit with younger residents.

Jacqui Bateson, Chair of the East End Homes Board, said: “The enthusiastic response from residents to the celebrations over the summer has been wonderful. There’s a palpable sense of community across all five estates and it was great to have opportunities to mark our 20th anniversary with residents. In addition to providing services, we recognise the importance of bringing people together in the true spirit of the East End! Thank you to all the residents who made 2025 a summer to remember.”

Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: “East End Homes has been a valued partner in our shared mission to provide quality housing and build strong communities. Over the past 20 years, they’ve shown a real commitment to working with residents and improving neighbourhoods across the borough. I believe that by continuing to work together with organisations like East End Homes, we can deliver the homes our residents need and deserve. Congratulations on this milestone and thank you for your ongoing contribution to Tower Hamlets.”

Mark Whittam, Regional Managing Director from Morgan Sindall Property Services, one of East End Homes’ main repairs contractors who supported the community events, said: “We are honoured to support East End Homes in marking its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of dedication to community cohesion and resident wellbeing. We look forward to continuing our partnership with East End Homes, to enhance the quality of life for residents, through meaningful services and opportunities that foster a strong sense of belonging.”

In January 2005 East End Homes was registered as a social landlord. Between April of that year until October 2007, the estates of Mile End, Island Gardens, St George’s, Holland and Glamis transferred from Tower Hamlets Council following a vote by residents. Today, the community-led housing association provides services to over 3,900 households from local offices based in each neighbourhood.

Our new CEO, Daniel Killian, assumes his role in September, taking over from Yvonne Arrowsmith who has been at the helm since November 2024. The timing coincides with the launch of our new Corporate Plan which sets out an ambitious resident-focused improvement programme for the next three years.
