Tis the season for a good old fashioned get together

EastendHomes Christmas Luncheon was enjoyed by over 100 OAPs from Mile End, the Isle of Dogs, Spitalfields and Shadwell on Wednesday 11 December 2024.
This popular annual free event took place at EastendHomes Southern Grove Community Centre in Mile End. Supported by EastendHomes staff, residents and brilliant corporate volunteers from Barclays.
Drinks and tunes flowed freely along with a delicious three course Christmas meal freshly made on the premises by Chef Danny and his Team of Eastend Elves. Music and dancing followed with some beautiful sounds and songs courtesy of pianist Peter Cole.
Paul Wilson EastendHomes Community Engagement Management said;
“The aim of today day is always about bringing people together, celebrating new and established friendships and have a good old sing song that our area of east London is famous for. I’d like to thank our community of volunteers including colleagues, residents and the team from Barclays. Their good will and spirit is what makes this event so warm and special and keeps people coming back year on year."
For many of the OAPs EastendHomes Christmas Luncheon is a chance to celebrate Christmas with others. Salim who is 70 years old and lives in Shadwell said;
“I live alone so coming here is really nice. It’s my Christmas Day. Being with others, having a chat, it reminds me of Christmas pasts and keeps me going. Thank you to everyone.”
Daryl from the Glamis Estate said;
“It’s my first time to join this Christmas Lunch. The atmosphere is great. It really shows the strength of community.”
