Stay Safe This Bonfire Night
As we celebrate Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes Night) today, we would like to remind all residents to take extra care and enjoy the evening safely.
Whether you're attending a fireworks display or celebrating with family and friends, please remember a few important safety precautions:
-
Enjoy organised fireworks displays wherever possible , rather than setting off your own.
-
Protect pets and other animals – keep pets indoors where possible, close windows and curtains, and provide a quiet, comfortable space away from loud noises.
-
Be considerate and protective of your family and neighbours – fireworks can be particularly distressing for young children, older people and vulnerable residents.
If you decide to set off your own fireworks:
-
Only buy fireworks that have a CE mark from a licensed retailer.
-
Only adults should light or hold fireworks – keep everyone else well back, especially kids.
-
Handle sparklers carefully – wear gloves, never give sparklers to children under five, and place used sparklers in a bucket of water.
-
Keep communal areas safe – never light fireworks or bonfires on balconies, near buildings or in shared spaces.
-
Keep fireworks in a closed box until you’re ready to use them and follow the instructions.
-
Light fireworks one at a time at arm’s length and keep a safe distance.
-
Never go back to a lit firework, even if it hasn’t gone off .
-
Keep a water hose or fire extinguisher close at hand .
-
Keep pets indoors with the windows closed as fireworks can really frighten them.
Let's make this Bonfire Night a safe and enjoyable occasion for everyone in our communities!
Stay safe during your celebrations.
