Information for residents

As a responsible employer and social landlord, we are proposing to consolidate our pension arrangements for all staff. This involves moving a small number of employees from a “defined benefits” to “defined contributions” pension scheme so that we have parity and equity for all staff members. For staff that agree to move across to the defined contributions scheme, their defined benefits are protected from the date of the proposed change.

You may receive information in the coming weeks about these changes to pension arrangements from the small number of employees who are affected. We want to explain to you why we have taken this course of action and what has happened so far.

The consultation began in February 2026 and has included formal consultation meetings, individual engagement with colleagues and some discussions with union representatives and ACAS. That consultation has now concluded.

Throughout the process, our objective has been to reach the best possible outcome for colleagues whilst ensuring that, as a landlord, we are able to meet our responsibilities to residents, maintain high-quality services and continue investing in homes and communities.

We recognise that some colleagues and their representatives disagree with the pension proposals. We respect their right to express their views, and we are committed to treating all colleagues with dignity, respect and fairness.

As part of the consultation process, we developed a significant support package for affected colleagues. This includes a transitional payment, deferred implementation, enhanced employer pension contributions for a temporary period and funded access to independent financial advice. We carefully considered feedback received throughout the consultation and enhanced our original offer following further discussions with colleagues and union representatives.

We believe our support package compares favourably with approaches adopted within the housing sector. It represents a substantial level of support for affected colleagues.

Our decision has been guided by important principles:

  • Ensuring a fair and consistent pension offering across the organisation.
  • Supporting the long-term sustainability and resilience of East End Homes.
  • Continuing to invest in residents' homes, neighbourhoods and services.
  • Balancing our responsibilities to colleagues, residents and the organisation as a whole.

Residents have consistently told us that they want us to provide reliable services, maintain safe and well-managed homes, and operate as a strong and resilient organisation. Residents have shared their views with us and told us that financial resilience and long-term sustainability are important to them, so that as an organisation, we can continue delivering for residents both now and in the future.

We understand that residents may hear different perspectives on this issue, so please consider all the information that is available. This is a complex matter involving the need to reconcile a range of responsibilities and interests.

Our focus remains unchanged; to deliver excellent services, maintain homes, invest in our communities and ensure that we remain a sustainable and effective organisation for the benefit of residents.

Thank you for your continued support.
