Important information about the expected hot weather
The latest forecast for tomorrow is warning of very hot conditions, with temperatures potentially reaching 36°C and high UV levels . An Amber Extreme Heat warning is also in place in parts of the region.
During periods of very hot weather, it is important to take extra care, particularly if you are aged 65 or over, have a long-term health condition, take regular medication, or are otherwise vulnerable to the effects of heat .
Please follow these precautions to stay safe:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid becoming dehydrated.
- Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day and opening windows when it is cooler outside.
- Stay in shaded or cool areas where possible and avoid spending prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
- Avoid excessive physical activity, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
- Wear loose, lightweight clothing and, when outside, wear a hat, sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen.
- Check on older or vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours where possible and make sure they are staying cool and hydrated.
If you feel unwell because of the heat, such as feeling dizzy, weak, confused or faint, move to a cool place, drink water and seek help.
