Community Safety the theme for Gas Safety Week

Logo for Gas Safety Week 2020 To mark Gas Safety Week for 2020, new research commissioned by Gas Safe Register has found that 91% of householders who joined an online group for their neighbourhood on platforms such as WhatsApp or Facebook are still using it, while 43% felt an increased responsibility for the health and wellbeing of their neighbours following the lockdown earlier this year.

Following good gas safety practice is something which we can all do to help keep ourselves and our neighbours safe. It is thought that nationwide, one in every five homes has at least one dangerous gas appliance. A special factsheet for carers [pdf] 318KB has also been produced.

EastendHomes tenants can help by reporting any concerns they have around gas appliances to us, and by providing access for our annual servicing inspections. Homeowners are responsible for appliances within their home, and should keep themselves and their neighbours safe by regular maintenance. If you are renting out your home, you also have legal obligations to have servicing carried out by a registered engineer.

Gas Safe Register have produced a video called 'The Ripple Effect' setting out the devastating consequences a gas leak can have on several households. You can watch it below.
