Fire on Whitechapel High Street

Residents will likely be aware that a serious fire broke out on the 17th floor on a building on Whitechapel High Street around 3.45pm on 7 March 2022. The London Fire Brigade successfully contained the fire and fortunately there were no major casualties. The fire damage was concentrated in a small part of the building, the cause is yet to be confirmed. By 9.30pm some of the residents living in the block were able to return to their homes.

The priority of the London Fire Brigade is to ensure the building and nearby area is safe for the local community. They remained on site to monitor the building and carry out a full structural assessmnet. While work is carried out they have closed the junction of Commercial Street and Whitechapel High Street. London Underground services are unaffected however there is limited entry/exit to Aldgate East station. We would like to reassure all EastendHomes residents that we are working closely with the London Fire Brigade and will be kept informed of any learning outcomes arising from the incident.
