Since 1 October 2018, following the passing of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2018, public bodies have had a 'Duty to Refer' - this is an obligation to refer anyone to the relevant local authority (council) if they believe them to be homeless or threatened by homelessness.
Although housing associations are not public bodies and therefore not part of this duty, many members of the National Housing Federation (NHF) are keen to support the implementation of the act. Therefore the NHF has worked with the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government to agree a housing association offer to support the Duty to Refer. This is known as the Commitment to Refer.
This means that EastendHomes, along with anyone showing the logo above, has committed to referring anyone who we believe to be homeless or threatened by homelessness to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
