Calder's Wharf Community Centre

EastendHomes acquired the community centre at Calder's Wharf as part of the transfer of the Island Gardens estates in 2006. The existing building was used for several years but was tired and in a poor state of repair, and no longer fit for purpose.

As part of the regeneration of the estate, the dated existing building is being demolished to be replaced by a new purpose-built facility together with 25 new homes. The new building will provide modern facilities designed to meet the needs of local residents.

Work on the new centre began in March 2017 in partnership with Telford Homes. The adjacent Island Gardens park will not be altered by this project and no construction work will take place on the park. No cranes or temporary buildings will be placed in the public park during the construction period. Following discussions with Tower Hamlets Council, it has been agreed that the existing boundary wall between the community centre and the park will be retained.
