A huge thank you to all our resident volunteers

We start the New Year with a thank you to our resident volunteers, especially those residents who worked with us over the Christmas period to run our friendly food banks, Food for Aldgate and Food for Mile End.

Thanks to their commitment and our partnership with The Felix Project and Tower Hamlets Council we’re providing food to those who are in need.

One of our Resident volunteers Helen Goody was part of the original team of people who set up Food for Aldgate. She tells us why she helps every week.

There are many families in the community that are struggling right now. It’s satisfying to know that in a small way we are helping. We have a great bunch of resident volunteers and get a lot of support from EastendHomes. Overall, it’s a really good experience.

If you’re interested in becoming a resident volunteer, there’s lots of different ways to get involved from:

  • supporting events and activities at our Community Centres
  • volunteering at Food for Aldgate or Food for Mile End
  • helping us to host big community events like our famous OAP Christmas Gala Lunch and Summer Street Parties
  • lending your green fingers or curiosity to our urban orchards. Read more here
  • joining your local Estate Board

If you’d like to contribute to Food for Aldgate or Food for Mile End, please bring along non-perishable goods to Southern Grove Community Centre between 1pm – 2pm or to the Bernie Cameron Community Centre Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm.

Or you can drop off at our Head Office during office hours.

To find out more drop us a line at communitycentres@eastendhomes.net or speak to a member of staff at our local housing offices or community centres.
