Waste Collection disruption

Due to industrial action between the waste contractor for Tower Hamlets and its staff, there is disruption to waste collection and street cleaning in the borough this week. The update below from LB Tower Hamlets and Veolia provides information to residents on what they can expect. If you spot problems on the estate caused by this disruption, please let us know and we will do our best to resolve any health and safety risks.

Veolia Strike Update from LB Tower Hamlets

Due to an industrial dispute between our waste contractor and its staff, we are expecting bin collections and street cleaning services to be severely disrupted during the week commencing Monday 9 March.

The council has been in communication with both parties and urged them to try to reach an agreement in an effort to avoid disruptive strike action. We regret that this was not possible.

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and would like to reassure residents that we are working with our contractor in an effort to return to a normal service as soon as possible.

Missed collections during the period of industrial action

Our contractor has assured us that they will continue to provide a limited service during the period of industrial action but it is likely there will still be significant disruption.

We will be aware of areas where collections have either been delayed or missed and will address this with a borough-wide response. It is not necessary for you to report individual missed collections during this time.

Please consider whether you could help us to minimise a build of waste on the street and in bin stores by waiting to put out items such as dry recycling until the following week.

Bulky waste collections during the period of industrial action

During the period of industrial action, we will need to direct all available resources to maintaining a level of service across the borough. For that reason, we regret that we will be unable to take new bookings for bulky waste collections.

We plan to resume bulky waste collections as normal from the week commencing Monday 16 March.
