Statement on the Extension of Right to Buy for Housing Associations
EastendHomes supports the work of the NHF in promoting the work of Housing Associations in meeting the housing needs of those for whom a market solution is not an option.
EastendHomes also agrees that home ownership is an aspiration for many and an option for those with the financial means to exercise that choice and clearly it is the Government's role to introduce measures which help people on to the homeownership ladder.
However, extending the Right to Buy through the disposal of social housing assets whether on a voluntary basis by housing associations or enforced by legislation will do nothing to help people in housing need nor is it an equitable way to subsidise home ownership.
After careful consideration, given the limited time available, EastendHomes Board has declined to accept the offer made jointly by the NHF and Government.
