New Homes Consultation - Mile End
EastendHomes' resident consultation on proposals for new homes at Mile End has continued with specialist consultants completing a door-to-door survey of the blocks concerned in May, achieving an almost 50% participation rate with 77% supporting the proposed scheme. In addition two further consultation ‘drop-in’ exhibitions were held in the estates' new community centre in July.
The scheme proposed will build new homes on the Eric Estate and focusses on adding units to the roofs of existing blocks with 122 units to be constructed on existing block roofs and using disused garages/pram sheds. This would provide 43 units for EastendHomes including 38 units for social rent.
In addition to providing new social housing there would be improvement works to the blocks themselves including lift installation in some locations. The proposal would not require any residents to move out and would use prefabricated lightweight off-site construction methods to minimise disruption for existing residents.
We hope to be in a position to submit a formal planning application shortly.
