Update on the Calder's Wharf regeneration scheme

Work will start next month on the EastendHomes scheme to provide a new community centre and new homes at Calders Wharf. We also propose to enlarge the park at Island Gardens and provide more river frontage for park users.

The new scheme will demolish this tired building and replace it with a brand new community centre which will include a new nursery facility, 25 new homes above the centre, and increase the size of the park.

The scheme has been designed to respond sensitively to the uniqueness of the site and provide a facility which will extend and expand the range of activities on offer.

Significantly, the scheme will increase the size of the public park by demolishing the existing boundary wall and opening up additional river frontage along the entire site for public use, an area from which the public have previously been excluded.

The scheme will also provide 25 new homes with 19% affordable housing provision and will generate sufficient income to enable the new community facility to be provided without any public subsidy.

This is a high quality development providing an important opportunity to provide new facilities for Island Gardens and the park.
